Keene’s Winning Streak Moves To Five; Swamp Bats Defeat Bay Sox 9-3

The Swamp Bat's winning ways continued on Thursday night as Keene defeated the New Bedford Bay Sox

Keene again put together another offensive outburst, totaling nine runs on 13 hits.

The Swamp Bats got things started early, putting up four wins in the first frame.

Back-to-back bases loaded walks scored the first two runs and then a Steve Swingle, Grand Canyon University, hit a two RBI single.

Keene put two more up on the board in the second inning, on JP Sportman's, Central Connecticut State University, RBI single and after Texas Tech's Eric Gutierrez got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the score to 6-0.

Rutgers' Brian O'Grady drove in Keene's seventh run on an RBI single in the third.

Sportman and Swingle struck again in the 5th inning. The reigning NECBL player of the week JP Sportman hit his second homerun of the season on a solo shot to deep left field. Swingle followed later in the inning with another RBI single.

Keene got another solid start from Nathan Kirby, who improved to 2-0 on the season.

The left-hander out of the University of Virginia tossed five innings of one run ball, only allowing four hits and four walks with eight strikeouts along the way.

Keene's bullpen took care of things the rest of way as Jordan Simons and Joe McCarthy only surrendered two more runs the rest of the way, to secure the 9-3 victory.

The win is Keene's fifth in row and eighth in their last ten. Keene also moves into fourth place in the Western Division for the first time this season.

The Swamp Bats will stay home on Friday night, as they will play host to the Vermont Mountaineers. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
