Huntsville Havoc News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc head coach John Gibson announced today that the team has signed former Pee Dee Cyclone forward Trevor Karasiewicz and resigned defenseman, Jamie Garrington.
Karasiewicz (5-11, 185) played in 40 games for the Cyclones last season and scored eight goals and recorded 34 assists. He also played in 52 games for the Winston-Salem Polar Twins in 2004-05 and scored 17 goals and had 43 assists. He played in 21 games for the Port Huron Beacons of the UHL in 2003-04 and scored one goal and had three assists. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native played in 50 games for the Thunder Bay Bulldogs of the SIJHL in 2002-03 and scored 33 goals and recorded 72 assists.
"Trevor was a player I traded for at the trade deadline last season," Gibson said. "I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that he did not report but he had his reasons. After talking with him this summer it sounds as though he has a new lease on hockey, he had a couple of trying seasons on two different expansion teams and is looking forward to coming to Huntsville. Over those two seasons he was averaging a point a game and I see him continue his offensive output this season and see no reason why he can't compete for the SPHL scoring title. His skills match up with some of the players we have returning is going to make for some great line combinations. I couldn't be happier to see Trevor coming here because I have tried to get his rights since he was in Winston Salem."
"I should have reported last season after the trade," Karasiewicz said. "I regret not joining the team and making that playoff run with them last year. I 'm going to come into training camp and give it 100% percent. I am excited about playing for a quality organization and for Coach Gibson. Huntsville has a great program and I'm ready to be a part of it."
Garrington (6-2, 180) played in 14 games for the Havoc last season before tearing his ACL and missing the rest of the year. He recorded one assist and had 29 penalty minutes.
"I will be happy to see Jamie back on the ice again this fall," Gibson said. "Last years season was cut short to injury and I know how hard Jamie and Dr. John Greco and his staff at TOC have worked to get him back to where he needs to be. Jamie only played in 14 games last year but I liked what I saw from him. He is a big boy with good feet and likes to use his body. Jamie knows we need to be more physical this year at the defensive position and his style fits the bill."
Coach Gibson will be announcing more players that will be coming to camp following the Prospects Camp in Elmira in early September. The Havoc will report for physicals on Monday, October 16 and will take the ice on Tuesday, October 17. The season will open in Florida against the Seals on October 27.
