Kansas City Monarchs News Release

JOLIET-The Kansas City T-Bones (45-48) scored two runs in the 5th inning to earn a 3-2 win over the Joliet JackHammers (31-61) before 3,082 fans in the opener of a four-game series at Silver Cross Field.

The JackHammers took a 1-0 in the 1st inning thanks to some erratic pitching by Kansas City starter Derek Duclos (2-3). CF Adam Klein (0-2) worked a leadoff walk and stole second base. 2B Rob Dahlberg (0-1) laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move Klein to third base. He scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game.

The T-Bones tied the game with a run in the 3rd inning. LF Ryan Fox (0-3) was hit by a pitch and moved to second base on a single by CF Aharon Eggleston (2-4). After RF Greg Jacobs (1-4) lined out, DH Luis Terrero (2-3) hit an RBI single to plate Fox for a 1-1 tie.

Joliet took advantage of some poor defensive play to score a run in the 3rd inning. Klein walked and moved to second base when Dahlberg walked as well. SS Kevin Rios (0-2) laid down a sacrifice bunt. Duclos over-threw first baseman Jim Fasano to allow Klein to score for a 2-1 lead.

Kansas City took the lead for good in the 5th inning. Jacobs lined a solo home run over the center field wall. Terrero singled and moved to third base on a single by Fasano. C Craig Hurba (0-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Jacobs for a 3-2 Kansas City lead.

Duclos walked seven men in just five and one-thirds innings and still picked up the win. RHP Rory Shortell (3-7) was phenomenal for the JackHammers in suffering the loss. He went seven innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
