Kansas City blanks 'Cats, 12-0

GARY, Ind. - Dustin Bolton (3-2) threw seven shutout innings for Kansas City (25-25) as the T-Bones coasted to a 12-0 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats tonight at U.S. Steel Yard.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Kansas City plated their first run without the benefit of a hit in the second against Garret Holleran (0-1). Craig Hurba reached safely on an error to begin the frame and scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly from Neb Brown. Back-to-back doubles by Jacob Blackwood and Aharon Eggleston gave the T-Bones their second run in the third, and Eggleston scored on a sacrifice fly by Greg Jacobs for a three-run Kansas City advantage.
Holleran left after three innings have surrendered three runs, two earned, on four hits in the loss.
The T-Bones used four hits and an error to push their lead to seven with a four-run fourth inning against reliever Kyle Heyne. Blackwood drove in the first run with an RBI double and later scored on a two-run single by Damian Rolls. Jacobs plated Rolls to cap off the frame. Three of the runs in the inning were unearned off Heyne.
After a single and a fielder's choice to start the bottom half of the first, Bolton retired 10 in-a-row before surrendering a single to Steve Haake in the fourth. The right-hander faced the minimum over his final three innings thanks to a double play in the fifth. Bolton allowed just two hits and struck out three in his seven innings of work.
Daniel Sattler threw a perfect eighth and Nate Cotton surrendered a single in a scoreless ninth to finish the game for the T-Bones.
Kansas City added five runs on five hits, sending 10 batters to the plate in the ninth to complete a 12-0 T-Bones victory. With one out and the bases loaded, five consecutive batters drove in the runs with three singles, a walk and a sacrifice fly.
Neb Brown singled in each the eighth and ninth innings for Kansas City to extend his streak of consecutive multi-hit games to five. He has also driven in at least one run in four straight contests thanks to his second-inning sacrifice fly.
Game two of the four-game series will feature all-star Ryan Knippschild (3-1, 3.15) for Kansas City opposite former Royal Tony Cogan (3-5, 4.70) for the RailCats. First pitch is set for 7:00 tomorrow night.
