Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, NC - For the second straight day, the Kannapolis Intimidators tallied eight runs on 10 hits. For the second straight day, it was not enough to beat the West Virginia Power, who slugged 16 hits for the second straight day on its way to an 11-8 win over the Intimidators at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium Thursday night. The Intimidators (24-30) have now lost eight of their last nine games. The Power (36-15), going in the other direction, has won its last six games.
Kannapolis sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning and used two three-run home runs, one each by Brandon Allen and Lee Cruz, to score seven runs in the innings. It was the most runs put on the board by the Intimidators in a single inning all season long. Yet, the seven runs only tied the game.
From there, the Intimidators bats again fizzled, notching just two hits in the last four innings. Meanwhile, West Virginia scored two more in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth inning.
As the score revealed, neither team?s pitching was all that impressive. West Virginia only gave up four earned runs, but walked seven batters and struck out just two. Kannapolis allowed 11 earned runs, walking eight and striking out just one.
Starter Jake Rasner had his second straight rough outing. After allowing a season-high nine hits in three innings against Greensboro, Rasner gave up seven runs on nine hits in five innings. Noe Rodriguez took the loss, going to 0-2 on the season, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in 2.2 innings. Joe Winn made his Kannapolis debut Thursday, giving up two hits in an inning and a third of shutout ball.
Besides Cruz?s and Allen?s three-run homers, Mike Grace had two hits and Archie Gilbert extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double. Gilbert also walked three times.
In the series, the Intimidators have now allowed 26 runs on 41 hits. Despite scoring 20 runs on 27 hits, the Intimidators do not have a single victory.
The last chance for Kannapolis to take a game in the series is Friday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. There will be fireworks following the game. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
