LAKEWOOD, NJ-Pedro Beato allowed just an unearned run over 6 innings as Delmarva took the rubber game of a 3-game series on Thursday night with an 8-1 win over Lakewood.
Beato (1-0) got his first decision of the year in his 11th start, and gave up an RBI single to Doug Morales in the 6th inning for the only Lakewood run. The native of Brooklyn, NY, who was the 32nd pick in the 2006 draft, gave up 4 hits and struck out 6.
Andrew Cruse (0-5), on his 23rd birthday, allowed 6 runs (3 earned) over 6 in his 2nd start of the season.
Delmarva got a leadoff double in the first from David Cash, who scored on a SAC fly by Brandon Tripp. The Shorebirds, now 7-6 against Lakewood this year, scored 3 unearned runs in the 2nd on a 2-run triple by Pedro Florimon, who then scored on a wild pitch. Billy Rowell of Pensauken, NJ drove in a run with an RBI single to make it 5-0, before Morales's single.
Miguel Abreu added a solo HR (4th) in the 6th and Michael Dubee allowed 2 Shorebird runs in the 8th.
Lakewood's Quintin Berry was 3-4 for the 2nd straight night, and now has a 10-game hitting streak, over which he is 20-40. Morales was 2-3 with an RBI.
Lakewood (26-24) is now 6-4 on their 13-game homestand.
