Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Delmarva Starting pitcher Pedro Beato had 10 starts coming into Thursday night's game against Lakewood with no decisions. Beato made sure he had one as the final out was recorded, going six strong innings allowing just one unearned run, while striking out six BlueClaws en route to an 8-1 Shorebirds victory at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ.
David Cash lead off the game with a double and scored a run in the first to set the tone. Delmarva added three runs in the third inning, two on a two RBI triple from Pedro Florimon, who later scored the third run of the inning in a wild pitch.
Lakewood scored its only run in the fifth inning after an error on Florimon followed by a RBI single from Doug Morales. Miguel Abreu answered the 'Claws run with a two out solo homerun in the fifth inning, his fourth of the season and second of the three game series. Chris Vinyard added a RBI with a hit in the eighth and Abreu drove in another with a double.
Brand Tripp, Vinyard, and Abreu had two hits for Delmarva and four other had one. Wilfrido Perez pitched three shutout innings to earn his second save of the year. Delmarva takes a one game advantage in the season series against the 'Claws, 7-6 and is 4-2 at FirstEnergy Park.
