Kannapolis Tops Lexington, 3-1

(Lexington, Ky.) Mark Haddow's seventh-inning home run broke up a scoreless duel, and the Kannapolis Intimidators went on to a 3-1 victory over the Lexington Legends Saturday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Starting pitchers Kevin Vance of Kannapolis and Nick Tropeano of Lexington each threw six shutout innings. Vance (1-0), who allowed three hits, walked two and struck out five, got the win. Tropeano gave up four hits, walked two and struck out eight. The loss went to reliever Nathan Pettus (0-1), who pitched the final three innings.

After Haddow's homer put Kannapolis in front in the seventh, the Intimidators added a run in the eighth. Michael Johnson reached on an error by first baseman Tyler Burnett, moved to second on a sacrifice by Joe De Pinto and scored on a double by Kevan Smith.

The Legends cut the lead to one in the bottom of the eighth. Delino DeShields Jr. singled with one out, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex Todd.

Kannapolis got an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an infield hit by Keenyn Walker, a sacrifice by Haddow and a double by Collin Kuhn.

Kannapolis has won two of the first three games of the series, which concludes with a 1:35 p.m. game Sunday.
