Tourists Top 'Dads on Saturday Evening

HICKORY, NC - Hickory LF Jeremy Williams belted a pair of home runs, but the Asheville Tourists topped the Hickory Crawdads, 11-3, before 2,833 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Crawdads (6-4) struck first in the bottom of the second inning against RHP Ben Alsup (W, 1-0). CF Jordan Akins started the inning by reaching on an error, before Williams unloaded a two-run bomb over the left-center field wall for the quick 2-0 lead.

Hickory starter RHP Santo Perez (L, 0-1) kept the lead intact through his first three frames, but the Tourists (6-4) strung together six runs in the top of the fourth. Two hit batters around a double loaded the bases to start the inning. DH Tyler Massey, C Ryan Casteel and SS Rosell Herrera then hit three consecutive RBI singles, putting the Tourists in front, 3-2. 2B Jose Rivera brought in the fourth run with an RBI fielder's choice, followed by an RBI double from CF Delta Cleary, Jr. The final blow of the inning came on an RBI sacrifice fly from LF David Kandilas, making it 6-2.

Asheville kept swinging away in the top of the sixth against RHP Nick Martinez. Casteel sparked the inning with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Rivera one out later. After Cleary, Jr. worked a walk, Kandilas knocked a three-run homer over the left-field fence, stretching the Tourists lead to 10-2.

After the Tourists added an unearned run in the top of the ninth against LHP Greg Williams, LF Jeremy Williams and the Crawdads struck again in the bottom of the ninth. Williams led off with his second long-ball of the game, a solo homer, to plate the 'Dads third run. C Kevin Torres followed with a double, but RHP Russell Brewer worked out of the inning with no further damage done, closing the 11-3 win for the Tourists.
