Week in Review:
Friday, September 3rd, 2010 vs. Chilliwack Bruins in Chase
The Blazers played well in their exhibition debut, defeating the Bruins 8-3 in front of 370 fans at the Art Holding Memorial Arena in Chase. Chilliwack scored first on the powerplay, but the Blazers got goals from 6 different players including 2 goals from new import Bernhard Keil. Corey Fienhage also had a strong start for the Blazers collecting 3 helpers. Jon Groenheyde went the distance in goal stopping 30 of 33 shots.
Saturday, September 4th, 2010 at Chilliwack Bruins in Mission
In Mission on Saturday night, the hockey club struggled to get momentum going and lost to the Bruins 6-3. Troy Trombley started in goal for the Blazers allowing 4 goals on 9 shots, while Jon Groenheyde came in and stopped 17 of 19 shots he faced. Chase Schaber scored twice for the Blazers and Bernhard Keil also scored. Robin Soudek had 3 goals for the Bruins.
Needham, Cross, Souto and Connolly Sign
The Kamloops Blazers got commitments from four of their top prospects early last week. Matthew Needham, the hockey club's first round pick in this past year's draft, had a stellar year last season with 253 points in 57 games. Landon Cross was a 3rd round pick in 2009; he is currently fighting for a spot on defence with the Blazers. Chase Souto was drafted in the 5th round in 2009 and is from Yorba Linda, California. Finally, Josh Connolly was selected in the 3rd round in 2010 and will play this season with the Cariboo Cougars of the BC Major Midget League.
Blazers to Play Giants in Whitehorse for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada
This upcoming season marks a first... The Kamloops Blazers Hockey Club is proud to play a game in Whitehorse, Yukon as part of the CBC National Hockey Day in Canada Program. This game in Whitehorse features the host Kamloops Blazers versus the visiting Vancouver Giants and will result in season ticket holders missing this unique event. The Kamloops Blazers hockey club will be substituting this game for a ticket to the Subway Super Series which will be held in Kamloops Wednesday, November 17th. The Subway Super Series features the Western Hockey League's best competing against the Team Russia Selects. This event is the last opportunity to identify players to be invited to the Canadian National Junior Team Evaluation Camp in preparation for the upcoming World Junior Championships.
Kamloops Hosting Subway Series Game
The Blazers were named a host for the annual 2010 Subway Series which features Team WHL versus their rivals from a Russian Selects team. This game will be the last chance to evaluate players for the 2011 World Junior Championship being held in Buffalo, NY.
Team Building
The hockey club spent Monday at Skytrek Adventure Park located near Revelstoke, BC. The day included every player conquering the "Extreme Challenge" course where some of the platforms reach a height of 22 meters high.
EA Sports NHL '11 Released
EA Sports NHL '11 is being released today with all 60 CHL teams included in the game. A limited quantity of the games for X-box and PlayStation 3 will be available in the Kamloops Blazers Corner Store soon.
