Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The K-Wings started off the week on Wednesday (2/22) during the 2nd Annual Education Day presented by American Village Builders, Red Robin and WKFR against the Motor City Mechanics. With the scored tied at 1-1 after the first period of play, the Mechanics scored three unanswered goals to move ahead 4-1. Kalamazoo would erase the three goal deficit by scoring three goals of their own including two in the third period. The game headed into a shootout and in the extra session, the Mechanics went on to win the game 5-4, as Motor City outscored Kalamazoo two goals to one in the shootout.
Kalamazoo started a two-game road swing on Friday (2/24), with a trip to Moline, Illinois to battle the Quad City Mallards. The K-Wings used a two-goal outburst in the opening period and never looked back in the team's 5-1 victory over the Mallards. Kalamazoo's special teams proved to be the difference scoring on all three power-play chances. The K-Wings were led by Damian Surma (17,18), who scored two goals in the victory.
Kalamazoo wrapped up the week on Saturday (2/25) in Port Huron against the Flags. The K-Wings top star was Lee Ruff, as Ruff scored two goals and added an assist in Kalamazoo's 4-2 victory over Port Huron. Jason Deitsch (26) also scored a goal for the K-Wings, which extended his point streak to a season high 14 games. The game was historical for both the K-Wings and in particular Daniel Carriere, as the defenseman etched his name in the franchise UHL record books by setting the record for most points in a season by a defenseman (59).
Fast Forward
The Kalamazoo Wings will play three games this week starting this Wednesday morning (3/1), as the K-Wings host the Port Huron Flags during the 3rd Annual Kalamazoo Public School Day presented by WKFR and Culver's. The K-Wings are 6-0-1 against the Flags this season. This will be the third morning game this season for the K-Wings, who are 1-0-1 in morning games. All time in morning games, Kalamazoo has a record of 3-2-1, including 1-1-0 during KPS Day.
On Friday (3/3), Kalamazoo will continue their home stand against the Danbury Trashers. The K-Wings are 3-1-0 against the Trashers this season, which includes a 6-1 victory in Danbury's lone appearance at Wings Stadium. Danbury starts the week with a record of 34-13-10 and in first place in the Eastern Division
The K-Wings conclude the week on Saturday (3/4) versus the Missouri River Otters on Pepsi Night. On the season, the K-Wings are 1-1-1 against the Otters; Kalamazoo's lone win against Missouri came on November 4th at Wings Stadium. Missouri starts the week in fifth place in the Western Division.

Carriere Sets Record
Defenseman Daniel Carriere has set the K-Wings UHL franchise record for most points in a single season by a defenseman. With 59 points, Carriere has passed the previous high of 58 held by Guy Dupuis, who played for the K-Wings during the 2003-04 season.
Home Sweet Home
The K-Wings will start a three game home stand this Wednesday against the Port Huron Flags. Kalamazoo is 18-5-4 at Wings Stadium this season, which includes a record of 5-1-1 in their last seven games.
Going to School
The K-Wings will play their third school day game this Wednesday against the Port Huron Flags, during the 2nd Annual KPS Day Presented by WKFR, and Culver's, Kalamazoo is 1-0-1 in morning games this season and 1-1-0 lifetime on KPS Day.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
With their victory last Sunday in Quad City, the K-Wings have won five straight games at The Mark of the Quad Cities. Kalamazoo's last loss to Quad City was a 3-2 setback on April 4, 2004.
