Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The K-Wings started the week at home against the Flint Generals. Kalamazoo's Gray Shaneberger (4) scored the game's first goal late in the opening on a back hand that beat Flint's Dan McIntyre. The K-Wings extended their lead to 2-0 in the second period, when defenseman Shaun Fisher used a wrist shot to tally his 3rd goal of the year. Flint mounted a comeback scoring the game's next two goals. The battle would head into a shootout, where Kalamazoo's David Struch scored the lone goal of the extra session to give the K-Wings a 3-2 victory over Flint.

On Friday, the K-Wings headed north to Muskegon to battle the Fury. The Fury scored the game's first three goals and never looked back. Kalamazoo received goals from Tim Turner (5) and Sean Starke (9), but it wouldn't be enough, as Muskegon skated away with 5-2 victory over Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo returned home on Saturday (12/11), as they hosted the Danbury Trashers. The Trashers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Bruce Richardson (7) scored on the power-play 3:47 into the opening period. The K-Wings answered back with two power-play goals of their own. First it was Sean Starke scoring his K-Wings team leading seventh goal of the year midway in the first period to tie the game at 1-1. In the second period, Kevin Kotyluk (5) sent a wrist shot past Danbury's Scott Stirling to give the K-Wings their first lead of the game at 2-1. In the third period, Danbury's J.F. David put a rebound past Kalamazoo's Chad Alban and forced the game into a shootout. In the extra session, the Trashers outscored the K-Wings 2 goals to one, and went on to win the game by final of 3-2.

The K-Wings concluded the week on Sunday at Rockford versus the IceHogs. Kalamazoo received a three point night by Tyler Willis (2 goals, 1 assists) and a four assist performance from Kevin Kotyluk to skate past the IceHogs 6-0. Rookie Goaltender Joel Martin stopped 26 shots to record the K-Wings second shutout of the season and the first of his professional career.

Fast Forward

It's another four games in five nights for the K-Wings; however, the preparation for this week should be easier, as the K-Wings will only have two opponents. The K-Wings start the week on Wednesday, December 15th at home against the Richmond RiverDogs. The ‘Dogs are in third place in the Eastern Division and in the middle of a seven game road swing. The K-Wings are 5-1-0 lifetime against the RiverDogs;however, the one loss occurred on December 5th in Richmond. The RiverDogs will return to Kalamazoo this Saturday, December 18th during the WOTV/WKFR 5th Annual Teddy Bear Toss and Coat Drive Night.

The K-Wings other opponent this week will be the Muskegon Fury. Kalamazoo is 0-3-0 against their intra-state rivals. The Fury, who starts the week in second place in the Central Division, enters Wings Stadium on Friday, December 17th on Disco Inferno Night. Kalamazoo will conclude the week on Sunday, December 19th with a visit to Muskegon.

Up to Three

Forward Kevin Kotyluk has extended his scoring streak to three games. The three game streak is the longest current streak on the K-Wings roster; however, it's still two games shy of tying the K-Wings season high scoring streak of five games set by Yannick Carpentier.

That's What Willis is Talking About

Forward Tyler Willis needs just one more point to reach 200 for his career. Willis moved closer to the plateau with a three point night last Sunday in Rockford.

Feels Like the First Time

Goaltender Joel Martin recorded his first shutout of his professional career with a 6-0 victory last Sunday at Rockford. Martin stopped all 26 shots to rip off his third consecutive win between the pipes.

Home Sweet Home

The K-Wings will begin a three game home stand this Wednesday night versus the Richmond RiverDogs. Kalamazoo will get use to playing at Wings Stadium, as six of their next nine games will be play at home.

The Obscure Stat of the Week

The K-Wings recorded their 17th shutout in their UHL history last Sunday with a 6-0 victory over the Rockford IceHogs. Of their 17 shutouts, the K-Wings have shutout the Rockford IceHogs the most at five times.
