Kalamazoo Growlers News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI -The Kalamazoo Growlers used another great pitching performance to keep them in the game with the Lakeshore Chinooks, but were unable to get runners across the plate during today's STEM Education Day game presented by Stryker. They fell to the Chinooks 3-1 in the team's second game of the season.
Kevin Marnon started the game on the mound for Kalamazoo and was able to go four innings while only allowing three hits and two earned runs. The Growlers bulpen was stellar for the second night in a row. Four pitchers combined to only allow one run in five innings of work.
Lakeshore got on the board first in the top half of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, a Growler pitch got away and ended up at the backstop, which allowed Alex Woinski to score the first run of the game. Alec Olund was then able to put the ball in play and drove in the second run of the inning on a fielder's choice.
The Growlers put a run of their own on the board in the bottom half of the inning on a ground ball by Eli Lovell which plated Kasey Cooper. This was the only run that Kalamazoo was able to bring home in the game as they stranded 13 runners on base.
The Chinooks recieved some cushion to their lead in the top of the ninth when Olund drove in Marshall Kasowski on a base hit.
Kalamazoo will head to Battle Creek to begin the crosstown series with the Bombers tomorrow night. The game in Battle Creek will begin at 7:05 p.m. EDT. The Growlers will then be back home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. EDT to continue this series. Friday's contest is Susan G. Komen Night presented by WWMT with a pink fireworks show following the game.
