
Kalamazoo Adds Two

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce they have agreed to terms with defenseman Ryan McGinnis and forward Olivier Legault (le-GOE) for the upcoming 2009-10 season; per team policy, the terms of the contracts will be undisclosed.
Off to an impressive start to his professional career, McGinnis spent his rookie campaign splitting time between the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League and the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.
Competing in the National Hockey League training camp of the Carolina Hurricanes, McGinnis played the first two months of the season with the Everblades. McGinnis made his AHL debut on December 12th with a +2 performance against the Manchester Monarchs.
In total, McGinnis played in 27 games last season with Albany racking up five points, all on assists. Ryan also spent 43 games with Florida, where he notched 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists) and was a +13.
"He (McGinnis) has the tools to become a top-notch defenseman in the ECHL," said Wade Welsh, vice president/general manager. "His junior numbers speak for themselves and he was productive in the AHL as a rookie."
A former 6th round (184th overall) selection in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft for the Los Angeles Kings, McGinnis spent five seasons playing junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. Two years ago, McGinnis completed his fifth and final season of junior hockey, playing his first season for the Oshawa Generals, where he recorded 48 points (6 goals, 42 assists) and helped the Generals advance to the Conference Finals in the OHL playoffs.
The native of Flint, Michigan spent the four previous years of his junior career with the Plymouth Whalers. McGinnis helped the Whalers capture the 2007 OHL Championship and were runners-up in the Memorial Cup Finals.
Adding a physical presence up front, the K-Wings have signed forward Olivier Legault. Entering his third-year of professional hockey, Legault has spent the past two seasons with the Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League.
A former 4th round (93rd overall) selection in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft for the Florida Panthers, Legault has amassed 294 minutes in penalties in his 94 career pro games.
Before turning pro, Legault played five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where the 6-5 left-winger rung up 690 PIMS in 440 games. In his final season in the QMJHL (2006-07), Legault also added 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) in 44 games with the Terrebonne Cobras.
The additions of McGinnis and Legault give the K-Wings 17 players signed for the upcoming 2009-10 season, which will commence on the road Thursday, October 15th against the Reading Royals. Also signed for next season are forwards Rick Cleaver, Trent Daavettila, Andrew Fournier, Sam Ftorek, Erik Johnson, Bryan Jurynec, Anton Kharin, Darryl Lloyd and Sean O'Conner Also signed for this season are defensemen Devin Featherstone, , Matt Krug, Jon Landry, Jeff Mason, Jeremy Swanson and goaltender Ryan Nie.
Kalamazoo will open up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 24th versus Reading with a 7:30 p.m. face-off at Wings Stadium.
Season tickets for the upcoming 2009-2010 season of K-Wings hockey are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office during their regular business hours of 10 a.m.-6 p.m. or by calling (269) 345-5101. Fans can save 15% on their season tickets by paying for their seats in full by October 1st.
