Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Cincinnati, OH- On Education Day at the U.S. Bank Arena, the Kalamazoo Wings learned how reliant they are, as the K-Wings erased a third period deficit for the first time this season to defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones 3-2 in overtime.
There was plenty of scoring chances, but no goals, as Kalamazoo out-shot Cincinnati 12-10 in the opening period.
Conversely in the second period, neither team generated a lot of scoring chances; nevertheless, Cincinnati did register the game's first goal.
Held without a shot for over half of the second period, Scott Reynold's initial shot was stopped by Riley Gill; however, the rebound bounced in front to Matt Pierce, who broke the scoreless tie with his third tally of the season.
Entering Tuesday, the K-Wings were 0-3-0-1 in games they trailed heading into the third period, but that would change starting 1:53 into the period with a goal from Kory Karlander. Sneaking in front, Karlander received a pass from Jordan Fulton for his team-leading 8th goal of the season and 20th point overall.
Gaining the lead for the first time in the game, Andrew Fournier (4th) deflected a Matt Duffy shot for a power-play tally midway in the stanza.
Cincinnati pulled back even minutes later with a blue line blast from T.J. Fast (5th), which forced overtime.
In the extra session, Sam Ftorek (4th) completed the comeback with a slap shot from the right circle 2:07 into overtime.
The victory pulled the K-Wings into a first place tie with the Cyclones atop the North Division.
Friday, November 19th (Kalamazoo 2-Cincinnati 5)
Cincinnati, OH- Led by a strong second period, the Cincinnati Cyclones defeated the Kalamazoo Wings 5-2 to regain sole possession of first place in the North Division.
On Tuesday it took Kalamazoo until the third period to earn their first goal of the game. Three days later, the K-Wings struck muck quicker.
On a power-play, the K-Wings won the draw in the Cyclones zone back to Jon Landry, who setup A.J. Thelen for a one-timer. Thelen's blue-line blast was deflected by Jordan Fulton (4th), who was camped out in front of the Cyclones net, 3:39 into the contest to give Kalamazoo the early lead.
Cincinnati stormed back in the second period with three unanswered goals. Following a turnover in the neutral zone, Brian O'Hanley (4th) walked in and fired the equalizer past Riley Gill 1:46 into the stanza. Cincinnati followed up O'Hanley's tally by scoring twice later in the period, in a span of 40 seconds, from Matt Pierce (4th) and Adam Bartholomay (1st), which proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Attempting to mount a comeback in the third period, Andrew Fournier (5th) knocked in a power-play rebound to pull the K-Wings back to within a single goal. The goal was Fournier's fourth in his last three games.
