Game Rewind

Wednesday, March 12th Vs Flint (Kalamazoo 6-Flint 3)

Kalamazoo, MI - After not passing the test on their first Education Day, the Kalamazoo Wings earned an "A" in their second with a 6-3 victory over the Flint Generals in front of a crowd of 4,229, mainly comprised of students from 19 schools around southwest Michigan.

Jaroslav Cesky (2nd) gave the Generals an early lead scoring on a rebound at the 5:59 mark.

Kalamazoo pulled even with 17 seconds remaining in the period with a power-play marker from Ryan Markham (7th). Earning an assist on the goal was Justin Cross. The point was Cross' 100th in his career.

Inches away from regaining the lead, Jordan Fox's breakaway was snuffed out by the skate blade of Jeff Reynaert, who was leaning the opposite way, but was able to kick the puck with his left leg.

Lucas Drake forged the K-Wings ahead 2-1 on a wrist shot from the slot. Upping their lead to 3-1, Tyler Willis sent a perfect drop pass to Kory Karlander (32nd), who beat goaltender Eric Marvin on a wrist shot.

The highlight of the season may have happened at the 17:07 mark of the period. After taking the puck away from former K-Wing Nello Ferrara, Glenn Detulleo on a spin-o-rama sent a perfect pass to Cross (15th), who one-timed it blocker side past Marvin.

Attempting a comeback, Mike Kinnie (19th) and John DiPace (17th) each lit the lamp to bring the Generals back to within a single goal at 4-3.

Kalamazoo put the game on ice adding tallies from Nick Bootland (36th) and a second from Karlander (34th) giving the K-Wings the eventual 6-3 victory. Willis, who assisted on both goals, finished the contest with a K-Wings' and IHL season high five assists.

The win gave the K-Wings sole possession of fourth place in league. Kalamazoo's victory was also their fourth straight at Wings Stadium, which is a season-high for the K-Wings.

Friday, March 14th @ Fort Wayne (Fort Wayne 3-Kalamazoo 2-Shootout )

Fort Wayne, IN- When the Fort Wayne Komets last suffered a home loss on December 21st it was to the Kalamazoo Wings, and in the waning moments of the third period it look like the K-Wings would repeat history. Unfortunately, the Komets tied the game with a power-play goal and made history in a 3-2 shootout victory over the K-Wings.

Fort Wayne earned the lead late in the period when Matt Reynolds (18th) finished off a two-on-one, tipping in a Luciano Aquino pass to the slot.

Finding the equalizer in the second, Glenn Detulleo (16th) ripped a blast from the rim of the right circle 6:27 into the period.

Upping his point streak to eight-games, Kory Karlander gave the K-Wings the lead early in the third notching his 35th goal of the season.

Capitalizing on a five-on-three power-play late in regulation, P.C. Drouin (18th) knotted the game at 2-2 with a left-point blast.

Remaining tied throughout the remainder of the third and in overtime, the contest was decided in a shootout. Fort Wayne outscored Kalamazoo 2-1 in the extra session and earned a 3-2 victory over the K-Wings.

The shootout point moved the K-Wings within two points of second place in the IHL, while earning the Komets their 9th straight overall win, as well as established their franchise record for home victories at 19.

Saturday, March 15th @ Muskegon (Muskegon 4-Kalamazoo 1)

Muskegon, MI- On Star Wars Night in Muskegon it was the Fury that used the force defeating the Kalamazoo Wings 4-1.

Skating from right to left in the K-Wings zone, Bill Zalba (7th) flung a backhander past Jeff Reynaert to give the Fury a 1-0 lead 7:46 into the opening period.

Four minutes later, Nick Bootland spun free in the right circle and zipped a wrist shot around Clayton Pool to tie the game at 1-1.

Turnovers deep in the K-Wings zone in the second led to Fury goals, as Muskegon jumped ahead 3-1 with goals from Robin Bouchard (26th) and Dan Riedel (20th).

Putting the game out of reach midway in the third, Bouchard (27th) tallied his second of the night to give the Fury a 4-1 advantage.

The victory by Muskegon snapped Kalamazoo's four-game unbeaten streak in regulation and moved the Fury into fourth place past the K-Wings in the IHL standings.
