Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce the signings of forward Pete Pierman and defenseman Quade Lightbody for the upcoming 2002-2003 season.

The signing of Pete Pierman will definitely be a homecoming for the 24-year-old forward. Pierman grew up in Kalamazoo and has been a K-Wing fan all his life. The signing of Pierman makes Pete the first Kalamazoo born K-Wing since Richard Keyes in the 2000-2001 season, and the second Kalamazoo born K-Wing ever.

"I grew up admiring Mark Lawrence, and now I get to play with him," said Pierman. "When you are growing up you dream of one day playing for your hometown team, and now that dream is about to come true."

Pete played last season with the New Orleans Brass of the East Coast Hockey League. In 42 games with the Brass, Pierman tallied 10 points (5 goals and 5 assists).

"He (Pierman) is an industrious player that gives us depth at the forward position," said Director of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Mark Kaufman.

Besides having his family and friends at Wings Stadium this year, he will also have one other familiar face in the locker room. Pete will be reunited with Chad Dameworth, who also played in New Orleans last season. Dameworth also has connections to Kalamazoo, as he played for the Junior K-Wings.

The K-Wings also signed defenseman Quade Lightbody. The second year defenseman played last season in Port Huron. The K-Wings received Lightbody's rights during the UHL Dispersal Draft in June, when Kalamazoo selected Quade with their sixth pick.

"Quade is a big physical player that will give us a presence on the blue line," said Kaufman.

Besides playing with Port Huron, Lightbody has also played a game in the American Hockey League with Saint John Flames. Before turning pro, Quade played college hockey with Saint Thomas University (CIAU) and junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterbourgh Petes, Detroit Jr. Red Wings and the Barrie Colts.

The signings of Pierman and Lightbody gives the K-Wings 17 players signed for the 2002-2003 season. The 29th season of hockey in Kalamazoo will start on October 4th as the K-Wings host the Fort Wayne Komets in the first of two preseason games between the teams.

Season Tickets for the upcoming 2002-2003 season of K-Wings hockey are currently on sale by calling the Kalamazoo Wings at 349-9772. Fans are also encouraged to inquire about the K-Wings "Friends and Family" program, which allows season ticket holders to save money on season ticket prices. The last day for fans to partake in the K-Wings "Friends and Family" program will be Saturday, September 14th.
