K-Wings Defeat River Otters 1-0 In Shootout

November 12, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

The Kalamazoo Wings prevailed 1-0 in a shootout against the Missouri River Otters as both Jason Tapp and Chad Alban recorded shutouts.

Both goaltenders were tested numerous times throughout the game. Tapp made twenty one saves for the Otters, inlcuding an amazing glove save on a shorthanded breakaway by Tim Taylor. In the other net, Alban stopped 31 pucks and helped the K-Wings kill off four power plays in the third period.

The teams went scoreless into the shootout with what seemed like brick walls behind the goaltenders. Andrew Luciuk struck first in the breakaway session, beating Tapp with a sensational backhand move. His goal was quickly answered by Lars Pettersen, who made a terrific backhand-to-forehand fake and roofed the puck above a sprawled Alban. The last goal of the shootout, however, belonged to the K-Wings, as Taylor beat Tapp through the five hole to secure victory for his squad.

The Otters play Saturday night at the Family Arena against the Fort Wayne Komets. The puck drops at 7:35, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 or the River Otters B2 webcast, located at www.riverotters.com.
