Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston, NC - The Kinston Indians will return to Historic Grainger Stadium for a short three game homestand Tuesday, August 18th through Thursday, August 20th without hometown hero Lonnie Chisenhall. The Eastern North Carolina native and first round draft pick was promoted to Double A Akron over the weekend. No Lonnie? No problem. The K-Tribe will help fill the Lonnieless stadium by letting anyone with the name Lonnie in free to any game during the homestand.
"Lonnie meant a lot to this team and the Eastern North Carolina Community," said a Lonnieless General Manager Shari Massengill. "Not only was he an outstanding baseball talent, but growing up 60 miles away in Newport he was a fan of this team for years. Like Bert without Ernie, Cheech without Chong, Winnie the Pooh without honey, Historic Grainger Stadium without a Lonnie would just not feel right this season."
If your first name is Lonnie, heck if your middle name is Lonnie, just show your i.d. at the Historic Grainger Stadium ticket booth and get in free for any game during the August 18th - August 20th homestand.
"Although we have not heard back yet, we've contacted former Major Leaguer Lonnie Smith, movie and television star Loni Anderson, UNLV basketball coach Lon Kruger, and actor Robert Downey Jr. to try to get some star power here next week," said Massengill. "The first three for their obvious Lonnie link and Mr. Downey Jr. because lets face it, to pull off blockbusters Iron Man and Tropic Thunder last year while slipping in an understated, heart breaking, but brilliant performance in The Soloist....he is truly one of the most talented and underrated actors of our generation, he's having a fantastic run and deserves to be recognized at our ballpark."
There are just ten more home games left in the 2009 season. The K-Tribe returns home to Historic Grainger Stadium Tuesday, August 18th through Thursday, August 20th! Kinston's final homestand of the year is August 24th through the 30th. Reserved seat tickets are just $4 for students, seniors and the military. G.A. for the general public is just $5, reserved seats are $6. Parking is always free at Historic Grainger Stadium. For a schedule or to purchase and print your tickets on-line go to the K-Tribe's Official Website at www.kinstonindians.com or call the front office at 1-800-334-5467.
