Lynchburg evened their series with Kinston at a game a piece with a 6-5 win on Wednesday night at City Stadium...The Hillcats have now won four out of five games...Tonight the Cats play the rubber match of their three-game series with Kinston and game three of a six-game homestand...They are in the midst of 13 out of 16 at Calvin Falwell Field...The Green & Gold are 5-5 in rubber matches this season and 0-2 against the K-Tribe...
VS. KINSTON: The Hillcats are 10-9 against the Indians thus far this season and are 4-5 at City Stadium...Lynchburg has the edge in the all-time series at 148-146, and they are 83-63 in the Hill City ...Kinston is the only team in the league with a winning record against Lynchburg at Calvin Falwell Field this season...
THIRTY SOMETHING: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently named their updated top 30 prospects in the Pittsburgh Pirates system with significant input from four of the top people in baseball operations...Of those thirty, seven are currently on the Hillcats roster, RHP Bryan Morris (9), LHP Jeff Locke (10), INF Chase d'Arnaud (11), LHP Rudy Owens (14), INF Jordy Mercer (23), UTIL Josh Harrison (26), RHP Nate Adcock (27)...Former Hillcat 3B Pedro Alvarez is still rated as the number one prospect in the system...
WANNA BE STARTIN' SOMETHIN': Last night Lynchburg's starter RHP Bryan Morris allowed just two earned runs in six and 2/3 innings, matching the longest outing of his career...In the last 11 games the Hillcats starting pitchers have posted a 2.42 ERA (14 earned runs in 52 innings)...In 10 of those 12 games the starter has allowed one run or less...
STARTIN' TO COME TOGETHER: LHP Justin Wilson is posting a 1.73 ERA (seven earned runs in 36 and 1/3 innings) in his last seven starts and has lowered his ERA from 6.75 to 4.83 over that time...LHP Jeff Locke has a 1.65 ERA (three earned runs in 16 and 1/3 innings) in his last three outings and has lowered his ERA from 5.94 to 4.61...LHP Rudy Owens has not allowed a run in his first two starts (nine and 1/3 innings) with Lynchburg and now has a combined ERA of 1.56 on the season...
DARN YES: INF Chase d'Arnaud went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, five RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base last night...The five RBI sets a new career-high for the former fourth round pick...In this series he is now 6-for-10 (.600) and his current hitting streak is now up to six games, his longest with Lynchburg...Over those six games his is batting .423 (11-for-26) with three doubles, a homer, five RBI, five runs scored and a steal...
B-MO BACK FOR MORE: RHP Bryan Morris made his first start since returning from the Suspended List last night...Pitching for the first time since July 30th, the former first round pick allowed two earned runs in six and 2/3 innings of work, matching the longest start of his career...Morris has gone six innings or more in three of his last four starts (the only one he didn't was suspended due to rain) after he failed to six innings in his seven starts...His outing last night was his second quality start of the season...
HARRY AND THE HILLCATS: UTIL Josh Harrison went 3-for-5 last night and has gone 8-for-14 (.571) in his last three games combined...He has hit in four straight games, in nine of the 11 he has played with Lynchburg and on Sunday night a Myrtle Beach hit his first home run as a Hillcat...Defensively he has already played three different positions, third base, second base and left field...
PRIORITY PACKAGE: Priority reliever RHP Tom Boleska worked three innings last night and did not allow an earned run...The right-hander has now not allowed a run since his return from the Disabled List on July 19th...That span now covers 15 and 1/3 innings pitched...On the season he has allowed just one earned run in 21 and 1/3 innings for an ERA of 0.42...
CLOSING IN: RHP R.J. Rodriguez notched his Carolina League leading 25th save of the season last night...The all-star closer is just four saves short of tying the all-time Hillcats single-season record...D.J. Carrasco had 29 saves in 2002 to set the record and is the all-time team saves leader with 38...Rodriguez has moved ahead of Rafael Chavez (22) and is now tied for second place in Cats history with Melqui Torres...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Mike McGuire was selected by the Indians in the 43rd round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Delaware...His final year with the Blue Hens he went 6-5 with a 8.22 ERA in 15 games (13 starts)...He made his professional debut last season with Short-Season Low-A Mahoning Valley and posted a 3-5 mark with a 4.05 ERA in 21 games with the Scrappers...This season he began the year with Low-A Lake County where he had a 5-3 record with a 3.18 ERA in 20 games (one start)...In his time with Kinston the righty has gone 0-3 with a 5.67 ERA in eight games (seven starts)...He has made one relief appearance against Lynchburg last week at Grainger Stadium in relief and he did not allow a run in an inning and 1/3...
