Kinston Indians News Release

The K-Tribe kicks off a seven game homestand tonight at Historic Grainger Stadium. Game time 7pm, as the Carolina League Leader in wins T.J. McFarland (10-2, 2.53), takes on the Advanced A Affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

29 in 28 - After a Sunday off day, the K-Tribe begins a stretch of 29 games in 28 days until their final off day of the season on August 30th. During the stretch they will play their final 18 home games of the season.

Great Trip - The K-Tribe went 4-2 on their roadtrip last week including ending the weekend with a three game sweep of Wilmington. It was the K-Tribe's first road sweep since taking down Salem last August. In the sweep of Wilmington, Kinston racked up back-to-back shutouts with a 2-0 and 4-0 win in the first two games of the three game set against Wilmington. It is the first time Wilmington has been shutout in back-to-back nine inning games since July 11th and 12th of 2001. The last time Kinston pitched back to back shutouts was in a double header against Wilmington (two seven inning games) on July 7th of 2006. Kinston also picked up back-to-back shutouts earlier that season shutting down Potomac in a nine inning game on 5/15 and coming back to shut out Potomac in the first game of double header on 5/16. Kinston has not pitched back-to-back nine inning shutouts since before the 2004 season.

Making Em' Earn It? - Wilmington finally scored for the first time in the three game weekend series in the fourth inning of Saturday's final game. The Blue Rocks went on to score another run in the game, but both were unearned. The last time the K-Tribe gave up an earned run was in a six run seventh on Wednesday at Winston-Salem. The Dash outburst was the most runs given up by Kinston in an inning this season. It erased a 3-2 Kinston lead and gave the Dash an eventual 8-5 win.

Survive and Advance - The K-Tribe just ended a two week stretch of two series a piece against the two division leaders in the Carolina League. Kinston went 8-5, winning two, splitting and losing a series. The K-Tribe will not play Wilmington or Winston-Salem again this regular season, but will play two series (one home, one away) against each remaining team in the Carolina League. The K-Tribe has a winning record so far this season against Myrtle Beach (9-5), Salem (7-6) and Potomac (7-5). The Indians are 6-6 against Frederick and are 5-8 against Lynchburg.

Home Cooking - The K-Tribe is 31-20 at home this season!

Streakin' - With a win tonight, Kinston would have their second four game win streak in the last two weeks. The K-Tribe's longest streak of the season was five games back in May.
