Kinston Indians News Release
With 29 games left in the second half, the K-Tribe begins a big four game series at first place Salem. Kinston starts the day four games back of Salem in the Carolina League Southern Division. The K-Tribe will meet the two teams they are trying to best for the final playoff spot (Salem - 7 times, Myrtle Beach - 3 times), ten times over these final 29 games.
Super Starters - Mahalic's struggle yesterday ended an incredible run of success for K-Tribe starting pitching. In the nine games previous to Sunday, Kinston starters had surrendered just 6 earned runs in 48 1/3 innings for a 1.12 ERA. No earned runs have been allowed by the starters in six of those games, and just one earned run in two of the games. Four of the runs in that stretch were given up by T.J. McFarland in a rain-shortened start last Monday night. The Indians went 5-4 in those nine contests.
Sox Series - The K-Tribe holds a 7-6 lead in the season series against Salem entering tonight's contest. The Indians have hit .270 while holding the Red Sox to a .226 batting average. Kinston is just 2-4 at Lewis-Gale Field this season. In their only series of the second half, Salem took two of three from the K-Tribe at Grainger Stadium from July 7-9.
