Justus Sheffield Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

The Thunder and Eastern League announced this morning that LHP Justus Sheffield has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 22 - May 29.
Sheffield went 2-0 this week with victories over Reading and Portland during a seven-game Thunder win streak. In 13.0 innings pitched, Sheffield allowed just seven hits and three walks, striking out ten. He allowed just one earned run in the two starts, recording a 0.69 ERA. Sunday against the Sea Dogs, Sheffield matched the longest start of his professional career with 6.2 innings in a 6-2 Thunder victory. With his two starts last week, Sheffield dropped his season ERA nearly a full run from 4.21 to its current mark of 3.28.
Tuesday's recognition by the Eastern League marks the first such award for Sheffield, previously he has twice been named to a mid-season All Star team (2015 with Lake County and 2016 with Lynchburg). Sheffield was acquired by the Yankees in the deal that sent LHP Andrew Miller to the Indians in July of 2016. For the season, Sheffield is 4-2 with a 3.28 ERA in nine starts. In 49.1 innings he's allowed 50 hits, 18 walks and struck out 44.
