Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Reading, Pa- The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that Phillies outfielder Daniel Nava - out since May 21 with a left hamstring strain - is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment for the Fightin Phils on Tuesday night.
Nava played for the Portland Sea Dogs in 2009, the Fightin Phils opponent for tonight. He played in three games against the Reading Phillies at Hadlock Field and went 5-for-12 in the series with three runs scored, one double, one home run, three RBI and one walk.
Nava was hitting .305 with two home runs and eight RBIs before being sidelined with the injury. He was signed by the Phillies this past offseason on December 9, 2016 as a minor league free agent. He made a rehab appearance for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Monday. He went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a RBI and a run scored.
The outfielder made his Major League debut for the Boston Red Sox in 2010 and hit a grand-slam off Phillies' starting pitcher Joe Blanton in his first-career at-bat. He became just the fourth player in major league history to hit a grand slam in his first plate appearance.
Nava has 27 career home runs and 193 RBIs in 538 games in seven major league seasons.
