Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH - Former Dayton Dragons infielder Justin Turner has become the 38th Dragons player to play in the Major Leagues. Turner made his MLB debut with the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night, going 0 for 2.

Turner spent the 2007 season in Dayton, batting .311 with 10 home runs and 59 runs batted in. He represented the Dragons in the Midwest League All-Star Game and then was selected to the MWL Full-Season All-Star Team.

Turner was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Orioles on December 9, 2008, along with outfielder Ryan Freel and former Dragons third baseman Brandon Waring, in exchange for catcher Ramon Hernandez.

Turner had spent most of the 2009 season with the Orioles Triple-A club, the Norfolk Tides, and batted .300 with two home runs and 43 runs batted in.

Turner was signed by the Reds after being selected in the seventh round of the 2006 draft out of Cal State-Fullerton.

Other former Dragons who have made their Major League debuts this season include outfielder Drew Stubbs, catcher Craig Tatum, and pitchers Robert Manuel, Carlos Fisher, and Pedro Viola (all with the Reds) and pitcher Jeff Stevens (with the Chicago Cubs).
