
Kernels set playoff roster as Townsend activated; Richards to DL

September 9, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that RHP Garrett Richards has been placed on the 7-dat DL, retroactive to September 7th, and INF Jon Townsend has been activated from the DL. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the moves on Wednesday.
Townsend was placed on the DL back on September 1st with a right hamstring strain and Richards goes on the DL with a right shoulder strain. Richards, the 42nd overall pick in the 2009 Draft, was scheduled to start against Burlington last Sunday and has not played in any games for the Kernels.
With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with eight on the disabled list.
The Kernels play game one in a best-of-three series with the Peoria Chiefs in Peoria tonight at 6:30 pm. John Rodgers brings you the action on the radio home of Kernels baseball, 1450 KMRY AM. Fans may listen on-line at www.kmryradio.com
The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, September 10th and host Peoria at 6:35 pm in game two of the MWL Western Division Semi-Finals. It's a 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday with 12 oz. draft beer just $1.50 all game and FIREWORKS following the game.
