Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -- James Jurries went 5-5, scored two runs, and had a pair of RBIs as the Greenville Braves defeated the Jacksonville Suns 5-3 Wednesday evening at Greenville Muncipal Stadium. Four G-Braves had multi-hit games, and Jurries' performance marked his high hit output of the season.
The Suns put two runs on the board in the first inning off of Greenville starter Matt Belisle (6-8). Shane Victorino and Jason Repko led off with a pair of infield singles and advanced to second and third on a balk. Reggie Abercrombie brought Victorino in with a groundout, and Brennan King picked up an RBI with a single to center.
The G-Braves cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second with a two-out double from Pete Orr. The shortstop ripped the first pitch he saw from Suns starter Tommy Farmer into left-center to allow Ryan Langerhans to score. The home team then tied it up in the third with a pair of two-out hits, the first being a James Jurries double. Jason Fitzgerald then fisted a ball to the right side that he was able to beat out as Farmer was late on the cover of first base and Jurries hustled home.
Jacksonville took the lead with a tally in the fifth on a pair of doubles.
But, the G-Braves would tack on single runs in the next three innings to cement the game. Three singles in the sixth inning knotted the game at three apiece, and Jurries came up with what would be the game winning hit the following inning with an RBI single up the middle off of Brian Steffek (1-1). Jurries would cap off his great night with his fifth hit of the game in the eighth, another RBI single.
Fitzgerald, Langerhans, and Orr all contributed with two hits. Roman Colon pitched the ninth to pick up his first save of the season.
