Mobile BayBears News Release

Jackson, Tenn. – The Mobile BayBears struggles at the plate continued Wednesday night against West Tenn. One night after falling 3-2 with four hits and 17 strikeouts, the BayBears fell to the Diamond Jaxx 3-1, collecting six hits on the night.

For the second night in a row, the BayBears received solid starting pitching. Justin Germano (0-2) took the loss in his second Double-A start, but was as good as could be asked. The right-hander worked six and one-thirds innings giving up three runs (two earned) while striking out six.

The BayBears lone run came in the top of the first as Freddy Guzman tripled and scored on an infield groundout by Rico Washington. Mobile did not have a runner past second base the rest of the game.

Diamond Jaxx starter Mike Naninni struck out 12 in his seven innings of work, allowing the first inning run and four hits earning the win.

West Tenn tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on an error by first baseman Jon Benick. The tie was broken in the seventh as Matt Creighton hit a two-run, pinch-hit homerun off of Germano, giving the Diamond Jaxx all they would need.

The BayBears look to get back on track Thursday night in game three of their series with West Tenn. LHP Cory Stewart (9-5; 2.96) will make the start on the mound for Mobile.
