Montreal Juniors News Release

Montreal, January 6th, 2010 - The Montreal Juniors opened up a five-game road swing with a convincing 4 to 1 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles tonight. Juniors captain Nicolas Chouinard led the way with a goal and two assists.

In the first period, it was Juniors forward Trevor Parkes who beat Olivier Roy for his nineteenth of the year from Elizier Sherbatov and David Stich at 7:26. Juniors captain Nicolas Chouinard extended the lead two minutes later with an unassisted goal. Screaming Eagles Brad Cuzner cut the lead to one as he scored before the end of the first.

The Juniors got going early in the second when defenseman David Stich scored on the power play at 0:32 from Chouinard and Jeremy Gouchie. Gouchie would extend the Juniors lead to three goals as he notched his twelfth of the year from Hubert Genest and Chouinard at 9:25. That was all the scoring the Juniors needed as they shutdown the Screaming Eagles offense the rest of the way.

Montreal netminder and Los Angeles King's prospect Jean-Francois Berube was very sharp as he made 34/35 saves. Cape Breton goalie goaltender Olivier Roy stopped 31/35 shots. The Juniors record is now at 19-18-0-3 while the Screaming Eagles are now 24-14-2-3.

The Montreal Juniors will now continue this road trip as they head to Halifax to face the Mooseheads on Friday before their showdown against top-ranked Sea Dogs in Saint John on Saturday. The Juniors will return to Montreal on Sunday, January 17th, when they host the Victoriaville Tigers at 4:05PM.
