TONIGHT: The Mudcats conclude a two game home stand with the finale of a four game, away/home, series vs. the Buies Creek Astros at Five County Stadium. Tonight's game is the 17th of 28 total meetings between the two teams this season. Carolina is 7-9 overall, 1-4 at home and 6-5 on the road against the Astros this season. The Astros lead the current series 2-1.

ICYMI: J.J. Matijevic, Abraham Toro, Jonathan Arauz and Corey Julks each hit solo home runs and starter Abdiel Saldana struck out nine over five innings as the Astros defeated the Mudcats 7-3 on Saturday night at Five County Stadium.

STARTING OFF: The Carolina League's ERA leader Cam Roegner has the start for the Mudcats in today's series finale against the Astros. Roegner is currently 6-3 with a 1.65 ERA this season and has totaled 53 strikeouts, 17 walks and a .231 average against over his 13 starts and 76.1 innings this season. Roegner last started on Tuesday, June 19 when he got the nod to start for the Southern Division All-Stars in the 2018 Carolina League All-Star Classic. Roegner allowed three runs and three hits in his lone inning pitched in the All-Star game, played at Five County Stadium last week. His last regular season start came on June 16 in game one of a doubleheader against the Pelicans in Myrtle Beach.

WHERE THEY RANK: LHP Cam Roegner is currently 1st in the Carolina League in earned run average (1.65), 4th in innings pitched (76.1), 3rd in WHIP (1.05) and 3rd among starters in fewest baserunners/9ip (9.79)... RHP Braden Webb is currently 7th in the CL in strikeouts (66), 5th among CL starters in lowest batting average against (.225) and 4th in highest SO/9ip ratio (9.74)... INF Tucker Neuhaus (93) leads CL hitters in most strikeouts... RHP Luke Barker is currently 2nd in the CL in games (23). Barker is also 2nd among relievers in lowest against (.156) and 1st among CL relievers in fewest baserunners/9ip (7.13).

MUDDIES ON THE POND: Carolina is batting a CL low .235 (.667 OPS) with runners on base. The Mudcats are also 9th in the CL when batting with runners in scoring position (.241, .706 OPS) and 8th in the CL when batting with RISP/2-outs (.221, .674 OPS) this season.

PITCHERS OF LATE: Since June 3, the Carolina bullpen has combined to go 4-1-4 with a 2.43 ERA and 61 strikeouts over 63.0 innings pitched... The Carolina starting rotation, meanwhile, is 4-9 with a 4.35 ERA over their last 19 games (since June 3) and 91.0 innings pitched (85 strikeouts, 34 walks).

HITS AND Ks: The Carolina offense has totaled 154 more strikeouts than hits (699 SO, 545 H) so far this season. Carolina's difference in strikeouts over hits is currently the 3rd largest in MiLB. Since 1991, only the 2017 and 2007 Mudcats have finished a season with more strikeouts than hits. Carolina totaled 164 more strikeouts than hits in 2017 (1,245 SO [franchise record], 1,081 H) and 70 more strikeouts than hits in 2007 (1,219 SO, 1,149 H).

AT 5CS: The Astros are currently 4-1 at Five County Stadium this season. They have additionally combined to hit .263 with nine doubles, three triples and seven home runs against the Mudcats in Zebulon this season... Carolina is 3-3 and has averaged just 3.0 R/G while hitting .196 in Sunday daytime games at Five County Stadium this season... Carolina went 11-1 in daytime Sunday home games last season.

JUNE GLOOM: Carolina is collectively batting a Carolina League worst .193 in June. They also own a -12 run differential and have averaged just 3.45 runs per game since June 1 and since Keston Hiura was promoted to Double-A... Carolina's .193 average in June is the lowest for a full-season MiLB team between 6/1 and 6/23 according to MLBfarm.com.

ALUMNI REPORT: The Atlanta Braves selected the contract of RHP Evan Phillips (2016) today. Phillips, a native of Clayton, NC, was a mid-season All-Star with the Mudcats in 2016 and went 2-1 with a 1.27 ERA over 21 appearances with Carolina (28.1 IP, 8 BB, 38 SO) before a promotion to Double-A.
