Frederick Keys News Release
SALEM, VA - The Salem Red Sox scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Frederick Keys 7-1 on Sunday night at Haley Toyota. It marked the Keys third setback in as many games and gave Salem the four game series.
With the game tied at one in the bottom of the seventh, Trenton Kemp broke the deadlock with a home run to left-center off James Teague. From there, three of the next four Red Sox (35-37, 3-1) reached base to bring up Bobby Dalbec. The Salem cleanup man doubled down the third baseline to make it a 4-1 game while a sac-fly by Tyler Hill and a wild pitch capped off the Salem inning.
Frederick (36-37, 1-3) scored its lone run in the third inning against Bryan Mata. With two outs, T.J. Nichting singled and stole second base. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch while a throwing error by Nick Sciortino allowed Nichting to score. In the game the Keys were limited to four hits with the Keys leadoff man racking up a pair.
Salem tied the game in the fifth. With a runner at second Sciortino hit an infield single. Delayed in going to third, Kemp tried to advance after Alejandro Juvier made his throw to first. Kemp was successful and managed to score after Wilson Garcia airmailed Collin Woody at third.
Joan Martinez (2-1) earned the win for Salem tossing two scoreless innings of one-hit baseball. Teague (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 0.2 of an inning.
