Frederick Keys News Release

After doubling on the first pitch of the third inning, 1B Jacob Julius showed noticeable discomfort while jogging gingerly into second base. He eschewed Keys Athletic Trainer Patrick Wesley, staying in the game to Frederick's favor. Julius would end the night 3-for-3 with a two-run home run as the Keys haled Wilmington's four-game winning streak with a 5-3 victory at Frawley Stadium Tuesday night.

In front of an outstanding crowd, the Keys used Julius' initial double to stoke a rally. CF Xavier Avery reached on a fielding error and LF Kyle Hudson slapped a two-run double down the left field line to tie the game, 2-2. Two batters later 2B Miguel Abreu drove the ball over the head of Wilmington right fielder Jamie Romak to give the Keys the lead for good.

Julius would then go back to work in the sixth inning. After SS Bobby Stevens worked a one-out walk, Julius launched his third home run of the season, a drive pulled over the wall in right field to give the Keys a 5-2 lead.

That was enough for Keys starter Oliver Drake who rebounded from a tough first inning to pick up his first Carolina League win. Drake had to work through two fielding errors in the first, an inning in which Wilmington scored two runs.

He rebounded to retire 12 batters in a row en route to a seven-inning effort. Drake, who missed a month of the season due to a shoulder strain, allowed just one earned run and walked none on the night.

Closer Jose Diaz came in and worked a 1,2,3 ninth inning for his fifth save in as many chances.

The series concludes Wednesday, May 26th at 11 a.m. Rick Zagone will take the hill for the Keys as coverage begins bright and early at 10:40 a.m. on The Keys Baseball Network.

Frederick will return home for Memorial Day Monday, May 31st at 4:00 p.m. against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. It is Kids Eat Free Monday at Harry Grove Stadium. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
