Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Matt Fairel and the Hillcats earned a 1-0 win over Myrtle Beach on Tuesday night at BB&T Coastal Field. Lynchburg had dropped three in a row, 10 out of 12 and 13 of their previous 16 before the game one win.
The Hillcats wasted little time plating the first run of the game, as they took a 1-0 lead three batters into the contest. After a one-out single by Cody Puckett, Neftali Soto doubled him home to give the Green & Gold the early lead.
The score stayed 1-0 thanks to outstanding pitching performances by the starters Matt Fairel for Lynchburg and Randall Delgado for Myrtle Beach. Fairel matched his season-high with seven innings of action and did not allow a run. Delgado allowed just one run in seven innings and struck out 12 in his effort.
The win went to Fairel (5-1) and the save to Justin Freeman (4) for Lynchurg (18-27) and the loss went to Delgado (2-4) for Myrtle Beach (13-32). It was the first shutout victory of the season for the Hillcats who had lost three straight, 10 out of 12 and had dropped 13 of their last 16 contests.
The middle-game of the three-game series takes place on Wednesday morning at 10:35 a.m. at BB&T Coastal Field. Right-hander Mark Serrano (2-1, 3.38) will toe the rubber for the Hillcats opposite righty Julio Taheran (0-0, 1.29) for the Pelicans. Tune-in for all the live action beginning at 10:20 a.m. on AM 1000 and on the web at lynchburg-hillcats.com.
