Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGDALE, AR - Infielder Josh Fields (right hip surgery) was among three players added to the Kansas City Royals' big league roster as he completed his major league rehabilitation assignment with the Naturals.

Fields, a 27-year old resident of Bradenton, FL, is in his first season with the Royals and has played in parts of four major league seasons with the Chicago White Sox. The Royals acquired Fields along with current big league second baseman Chris Getz last November in exchange for Mark Teahen. He has missed all of the 2010 season thus far, undergoing hip surgery after spring training. He appeared in 11 games during his rehab assignment with the Naturals, posting a .439 average (17-for-39) with eight doubles, nine RBI, and a stolen base.

Primarily a third baseman, the right-handed slugger owns a .229 average in 204 major league games, with 31 homers and 101 RBI in 664 at-bats. His best season was in 2007, when he batted .244 with 23 homers and 67 RBI in 100 games, garnering a third-place vote for the American League Rookie of the Year award. He was the White Sox' first-round selection (18th overall) in the 2004 draft out of Oklahoma State University.

Royals' skipper Ned Yost indicated that he will use September to get a look at Fields as he would be a candidate to start at third base next season in Kansas City, presumably keeping the seat warm for Texas League Player of the Year Mike Moustakas, who set a Pacific Coast League RBI record Monday night with 11 runs batted in for Triple-A Omaha.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state of the art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. You can purchase tickets and group outings with the Naturals by calling (479) 927-4900.
