
Jorge Mateo Named to 2016 All-Star Futures Game

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Yankees shortstop Jorge Mateo and former Tampa Yankee catcher Gary Sanchez have been selected to play in the 2016 All-Star Futures Game. This season will mark the 18th annual Futures Game, with the US taking on the World. The game will be played on Sunday, July 10th at Petco Park in San Diego. Both Mateo and Sanchez will represent the Dominican Republic on the World Team.
Mateo joined the Tampa Yankees this season and is batting .269 (76-for-283) in 70 games. The 21-year-old has eight doubles, eight triples, five home runs, 34 RBI, 45 runs scored and 26 stolen bases and was named a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star The New York Yankees signed Mateo as a non-drafted free agent on January 28th, 2012. He is from Santo Domingo Oeste, Dominican Republic.
Sanchez played 142 games for the Tampa Yankees between 2012 and 2013, batting .262 (140-for-534) with 31 doubles, one triple, 18 home runs, 90 RBI, 59 runs scored and seven stolen bases. He was named a Florida State League All-Star in 2013. The 23-year-old is currently with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, batting .280 (56-for-200) with 16 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 32 RBI, 26 runs scored and three stolen bases in 49 games. The New York Yankees signed Sanchez as a non-drafted free agent on July 2nd, 2009. He is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
