
Avelino Homers as Tampa Win 4th-Straight

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (5-2, 47-29) held off a late push by the Lakeland Flying Tigers (1-6, 35-40) and won a fourth-consecutive game with a 3-2 final on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Abiatal Avelino broke a scoreless tie in the fourth by crushing his sixth home run of the season. Thairo Estrada blooped a single into left. One out later, Avelino hit a two-run homer over the left field wall.
Ian Clarkin (W, 6-6) made his 15th start and earned the win after laboring through five scoreless innings. The southpaw scattered six hits and a walk while tallying five strikeouts. Clarkin tossed 50 of his 80 pitches for strikes.
Lakeland starter Matt Hall made a quality start in his second game with the Flying Tigers. The lefty allowed two earned runs on five hits, two walks and a hit-batter in six innings. Hall tallied eight strikeouts and threw 56 of his 101 pitches for strikes.
RHP Joey Maher relieved Clarkin in the sixth and retired the first six batters he faced before finding trouble in the eighth.
Zach Shepherd and Ben Verlander it back-to-back singles and advanced on a wild pitch. Ross Kivett cut the lead in half with an RBI groundout to shortstop, scoring Shepherd.
Tampa got the run back in the bottom of the eighth as Devyn Bolasky tripled to the wall in centerfield and scored on a sacrifice fly by Estrada.
RHP Jordan Foley (SV, 2) entered in the ninth and Kade Scivicque led off with a single. One out later, Joey Pankake doubled down the right field line, placing the tying runs in scoring position. A groundout by Wade Hinkle scored Scivicque before Foley struck out Shepherd to end the game.
Avelino (2-for-4, HR, 2RBI, R) homered for the third time in his last 10 games. Bolasky (2-for-3, 3B, HBP, R) tallied his first triple. Estrada (1-for-2, BB, SF, RBI, R, SB) extended his hitting streak to eight games.
The Yankees play the Flying Tigers on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. to wrap up the eight-game home stand. RHP Will Carter (0-2, 6.62 ERA) is slated to start for Tampa against RHP Jeff Thompson (5-2, 3.10 ERA) for Lakeland.
