Jordan Balazovic Named MWL Pitcher of the Week

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Midwest League and MiLB.com announced today that Kernels pitcher Jordan Balazovic has been named the Midwest League pitcher of the Week for the period ending July 1st.
Balazovic did not allow a hit or a run over 6 innings at Burlington on June 30th. He faced 21 batters in that game, striking out 10 while walking just two in an 11-3 Kernels win. He's pitched in five games for the Kernels this season, posting a 3-1 record and 2.36 ERA. In 26.2 IP, he allowed seven runs and 22 hits with seven walks and 41 strikeouts. He was selected by the Twins in the fifth round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of St. Martin Secondary School in Canada.
Balazovic joins Alex Kirilloff as the only Kernels to earn MWL weekly honors this season. Ernie De La Trinidad of Kane County was named the MWL Player of the Week for the same period.
The Kernels begin a two-game series at Wisconsin tonight at 6:30 PM. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, July 4th to host Wisconsin at 5:05 PM with the gates opening at 4:00 PM.
