Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Beloit, WI - The Quad Cities River Bandits picked up their fourth consecutive win by knocking off the Beloit Snappers 4-2 at Pohlman Field on Monday night. The Bandits set a new season-high with six doubles in the contest.
The River Bandits reached the board first, grabbing an unearned run in the second inning. Logan Mattix led off with a double down the left field line and moved to third base on a groundball to the right side from Colton Shaver. Scott Schreiber hit a bouncer to short that skipped off the knee of Nick Allen and into center field. Mattix raced home to give the Bandits a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Mattix again struck for a double with one out in the frame. Shaver immediately followed with a double of his own that plated Mattix and doubled the lead. Two batters later, Scott Schreiber also ripped an RBI double to extend the advantage to 3-0.
Beloit climbed closer in the bottom of the same frame, using a pair of big doubles to their advantage. After Lazaro Armenteros started the frame with a single into center field, Austin Beck quickly drove him in with a double. After two strikeouts, Jesus Lopez also drove in a run with a double to close the gap to 3-2.
The Bandits grabbed the final run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. Seth Beer opened the inning with a double deep down the left field line and into the corner. He was still on second base when Shaver dropped a base hit into shallow right field to score him and make it 4-2.
Leovanny Rodriguez, the winning pitcher, threw 5.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five. Cesar Rosado picked up a save by tossing 4.0 scoreless innings out of the pen. Rosado scattered two hits and walked four, also striking out five.
The Bandits collected seven hits as a team. Mattix and Shaver were each responsible for two. Shaver finished with a pair of runs batted in.
The River Bandits (6-6, 46-36) and Snappers (5-6, 32-38) meet one more time at Pohlman Field on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. RHP Jairo Solis (0-3, 3.10) will take the ball against Beloit RHP Mitchell Jordan (2-2, 2.73).
