Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind.: Greg Bicknell tossed eight strong innings and Brandon Jones hit a three-run home run to lead the Kansas City T-Bones to a 4-2 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Sunday afternoon. The T-Bones won two of three games in the series, ending the RailCats string of four straight series victories. Both teams are 12-17 overall.

The start of the game was delayed 25 minutes by rain and there was another 27 minute rain delay in the first inning. In the second, Gary starting pitcher Josh Habel walked Eddie Pearson and hit Doug Dreher with a pitch with one out. Jones then connected on a 3-2 pitch, sending a long drive over the left field wall for his fifth home run of the season to make it 3-2.

The RailCats made it a one-run game in the fifth. Nathan Haynes singled with one out, breaking up a string of 11 straight batters retired by Bicknell, and Andy Rohleder followed with a two-run home run to left field, his fourth homer of the year, to make it 3-2.

But the RailCats could get no closer. They advanced the tying run into scoring position in both the fifth and sixth innings before Bicknell (2-4) pitched out of trouble. Pearson hit a long home run to right in the eighth, his fifth of the season, to give Kansas City a 4-2 lead, and the RailCats did not push a runner past first base the rest of the way. Byron Embry pitched the ninth for his sixth save. Habel (1-4) took the loss for Gary.

The RailCats host the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Jason Shelley (3-2, 4.67) will start for Gary. The first 2,000 fans will receive a canvas bag courtesy of NIRPC. It is also Asthma Awareness Night, sponsored by NIRPC.

Notes: The RailCats three-game series attendance total of 14,353 was the second highest in club history...Steve Edsall extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 17, just two-thirds of an inning short of the club record. Edsall entered the game in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no outs and pitched out of the jam, stranding three runners.
