Jones leads Pioneers over Capitales, 10-6

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Designated hitter Brian Jones led the Pioneers with a two out, one man on, homerun in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Pio's over the Capitales. Jones then doubled in the eighth following a double by left fielder Rafael Alvarez to earn three RBI's on the night.

Shortstop Cleatus Davidson also joined the hitting rally collecting three hits on five at bats earning one RBI. The Pioneers collected 17 hits on the night.

Pitching five innings, pitcher Geronimo Mendoza gave up seven hits and three earned runs while recording his first win of the season. Japanese pitcher Kenichiro Kawabata showed his potential again pitching two innings and only allowing two hits while striking out three Capitales.

For Quebec first baseman John Ballon led the hitting going 2-4 and earning one RBI.

Pitcher Jordy Alexander received the loss for Quebec going four innings and giving up nine hits and five earned runs while striking out five.

The Pioneers split the series with Quebec 2-2. The Capitales have Monday off while the Pioneers continue their home stand against Allentown tomorrow at 7:05pm.
