Kane County Cougars News Release
EASTLAKE, Ohio - Travis Jones cracked a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning on Thursday night to lead the Kane County Cougars to a 4-3 victory over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park. Jason Adam gave up one earned over six innings, Mitch Hodge got his first win and Chas Byrne saved it as the Cougars avoided a sweep by grabbing the finale in northern Ohio.
The score was tied, 2-2, in the top of the ninth when the Cougars took control. Lane Adams was hit by a pitch by Nick Sarianides (3-3), and Jones launched a two-run shot with two outs to make it 4-2. Byrne gave up a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth before retiring Levon Washington to notch his third save.
Adam posted his third straight quality start and the Cougars' 20th in the last 32 games. He left in a 2-2 tie after committing an error in the bottom of the sixth that led to an unearned run. Adam gave up four hits, walked two and struck out eight, including five of the first six he faced. Hodge (1-0) handled the seventh and eighth innings with shutout relief to earn the win.
The Cougars' first run came in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Yowill Espinal, and the Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Cheslor Cuthbert singled home Ryan Stovall. Adam's unearned run followed in the sixth, and that 2-2 scored stayed until the ninth.
