Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - With the 3rd pick in the 4th round (94th overall) at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, New York, the Florida Panthers selected Petes centre Jonathan Ang.
Ang, a speedy forward from Markham, Ontario, had a standout season with the Petes in 2015/16. The sophomore put up 21 goals, 28 assists, 49 points and 44 penalty minutes this season, suiting up in all 68 regular season games. The iron man was also the top Petes scorer in the playoffs, recording 3 goals, 6 assists, and 9 points in seven games.
"It's an unbelievable feeling to be selected by the Panthers," said Ang. "I've grown a lot in two years with Peterborugh and it was exciting to come to Buffalo with my family and hear my name called."
The 5'11", 160lbs centre also puts in countless hours in the gym, the community, and the classroom. Ang was the top performer at the 2016 NHL Draft Combine, and has been recognized in the annual OHL Coaches' Poll as one of the top skaters in the league. When he's not working with Peterborough-based charities like the Kawartha Komets Special Needs Hockey Team, the sniper is studying, and was won OHL Academic Player of the Month honours.
