Peterborough Petes News Release
(Buffalo, NY) - With the 2nd pick in the 5th round (123rd overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, New York, the Edmonton Oilers selected Petes goaltender Dylan Wells.
Wells, an athletic 6'2", 187lbs goalie, is coming off his second season in a Petes uniform. He has excelled both on the ice and off in his junior career, with standout performances including backstopping Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2015 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka U18 Championship, and earning top fitness combine results and wowing scouts at the 2016 BMO NHL/CHL Top Prospects Game.
"It's an amazing feeling to be selected by the Oilers," exclaimed Wells. "To enjoy this day with my family and friends, and to be the first Petes goalie taken by Edmonton since my coach Andrew Verner, makes this a really special day."
The OHL sophomore has been a staple in the Peterborough community, volunteering at many community events and serving as the honourary co-chair of the 2016 Petes Pink in the Rink campaign, helping raise nearly $100,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The St. Catharines, Ontario native, was described by International Scouting Services scout J. Higgins as a "Decent size butterfly goalie. [He] moves well in the crease. [He] does a good job tracking pucks and limiting second chances."
