Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
JOLIET, IL - The Joliet Slammers scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the ThunderBolts 4-1 in game one of a two-game set at DuPage Medical Group Field Tuesday night.
The game was dominated by starting pitching as Joliet starter Tyler Jandron retired the first 15 batters he faced.
Christian Morris started for the ThunderBolts (8-9) and was nearly as good. He didn't allow his first hit until an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. The Slammers had two hits in both the fourth and fifth innings but didn't score.
General McArthur broke up Jandron's perfect game with a double to lead off the sixth. He scored on a Brynn Martinez RBI single. Martinez made it to third with one out but was stranded. The Bolts left a runner at third in back-to-back innings.
Joliet (5-12) trailed 1-0 in the eighth, when Tyler Coolbaugh drew a leadoff walk. He was at third base with two outs when Chaz Meadows lined a single to right field to tie the score. That's when the Slammers bats broke out. Brian Parreira, Riley Krane and Ridge Hoopii-Haslam all doubled consecutively to score three more runs.
The Bolts brought the tying run up in the ninth with a hit and a walk but Ryan Koziol pitched out of the jam for his fourth save.
Jandron ended up with 12 strikeouts and allowed only three hits through his eight innings as he earned his first win of the year. Blake Hickman (0-1) allowed four runs in an inning and a third for the loss. Morris threw 6.2 shutout innings but did not take a decision.
The quick series concludes on Wednesday as Tyler Thornton (1-0, 0.45) starts for the ThunderBolts against Joliet's Keegan Long (1-1, 6.06). First pitch from DuPage Medical Group Field is scheduled for 7:05 and the radio broadcast can be heard on WXAV, 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
