Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 12, 2010) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 7-6 on Thursday night at Suffolk County Sports Park.
Camden plated the game's first run in the first inning off Long Island starter Kyle Jackson. Brian Burgamy's RBI single into right field gave the `Sharks a 1-0 advantage. A run-scoring double play in the third and suicide squeeze off the bat of Shea Harris in the fourth made the score 3-0.
Long Island bounced back with a three-spot in the home sixth off Camden starter Gabriel Alfaro. Johnny Hernandez' RBI sacrifice fly and Joey Gathright's two-run single tied the game at three.
The Riversharks would answer in the subsequent inning as Richie Robnett's RBI triple put Camden back in front.
Continuing the back-and-forth game, the Ducks took the lead in the home eighth inning. Gathright's RBI single slapped into left field gave the Flock a 5-4 advantage.
Camden wasted no time regaining the lead with two runs in the top of the ninth frame off Ducks' closer Ricardo Gomez. Richie Robnett's 12-pitch battle ended with a two-run blast over the right field wall to give Camden a 6-5 lead.
The seesaw battle rolled on as Matt Cavagnaro tied the contest up with a two-out single into right field, plating Javier Colina, who led off the inning with an infield base hit. With the game knotted at six, Gathright struck again as he ripped a single into right-center field for the Ducks'fifth waddle-off win of the season.
Gomez (3-2) picked up the victory and Blaine Neal (6-2) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Gathright paced the Ducks with four hits and four RBI, while Navarrete chipped in with three hits and two doubles.
The Ducks will now begin a six-game roadtrip against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Friday.Game time is set for 7:05 PM at Regency Furniture Stadium. Fans can tune into all the action live via streaming webcast at t "_blank" www.liducks.com with Casey Lynn calling the play-by-play.
Long Island returns to Suffolk County Sports Park on Friday, August 20th to begin a three-game series against theNewark Bears.Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans will receive Green Baseball Caps, presented by St. Vincent de Paul.
