Lancaster Stormers News Release

Bridgeport made certain in a hurry there would be no repeat of Wednesday evening's drubbing at the hands of the Lancaster Barnstormers.

The Bluefish got to Jason Simontacchi for four runs over the first two innings and cruised to a 9-3 victory in front of 3,701 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Lancaster's lead over York remained at two games in the Freedom Division as the Somerset Patriots knocked off the Revolution earlier in the day, 13-4. Somerset has now pulled to within three games of the 'Stormers.

Adam Greenberg got the Bluefish underway with a double over the head of left fielder Michael Woods in the first inning. The Bridgeport center fielder came around on outs, scoring on a sacrifice fly to center by Steven Moss.

It was in the second when Bridgeport grabbed a handle on the game. Luis Lopez led off with a single and stayed at first base through a pair of outs. Simontacchi (4-6) walked Luis Rodriguez on a 3-2 pitch down low, and Brandon Chaves followed with a smash down the right field line for a two-run triple. He came home on a bloop single to center by Greenberg as the Bluefish built a 4-0 lead for Dan Serafini (4-1).

The lead continued to grow. Chaves smoked a home run to right center with two outs in the fourth, the sixth of the season for the Bridgeport shortstop. In the fifth, Tike Redman smashed a ball back to the mound that knocked Simontacchi's glove off before caroming into foul ground. One out later, Hiram Bocachica rode a breaking ball into the deep angle in left center fielder for an RBI triple. Danny Putnam delivered Bocachica with a single into center, and it was 7-0.

Lancaster was able to whittle into Serafini's lead over the next two innings. Reggie Taylor reached second to lead off the fifth when Bocachica made a wild throw after a nice backhanded stop up the middle. Woods walked, and Vic Gutierrez brought a run home with a single under Chaves' glove into center. Joe Gaetti knocked a second run across with a sacrifice fly to left.

Aaron Herr conked a two-out solo homer to right in the sixth to slice the lead to 7-3, and it looked like the Barnstormers might take another run off the margin in the seventh when Gutierrez greeted Miguel Saladin with a double into the right field corner. That turned out to be Lancaster's last hit, and Moss tacked on a two-run homer in the ninth for the final margin.

York visits Clipper Magazine Stadium for the weekend. The Barnstormers will open the series with former Revs lefty Wayne Franklin (0-0) on the mound. Celson Polanco, a right-hander, will counter for York.

NOTES: Octavio Martinez hit safely in his seventh straight game...Adam Witter took Jason Perry's #3 hole in the batting order but was 0-for-4...Lancaster is 6-11 against Bridgeport on the season...Gaetti has driven in eight runs in his last nine games.
