DAVENPORT, Iowa. â The Quad City Steamwheelers today announced that Joe Gottschalk and Sgt. Aaron Sissel, Tipton natives and members of the Iowa National Guard, will be honored prior to the Steamwheelers game on Saturday, May 28, when they host the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz at Orthopaedic Specialists Field at The MARK of the Quad Cities at 7:30 p.m. Gottschalk, an Iowa National Guard soldier, was seriously wounded in Iraq, while his childhood friend Sissel was killed when their convoy was attacked near the Iraqi city of Habidah on November 29, 2003. Gottschalk, who was awarded The Purple Heart by President George W. Bush for his actions in combat, and Jo Sissel, Aaron's mother, will participate in the pregame ceremonies honoring all military veterans. Sissel and Gottschalk will then join Jim Albracht during the halftime show on WFXN 1230AM and KWPC 860AM.
Also, the Quad City Steamwheelers and KWQC-TV 6 have joined up this Memorial Day weekend to help children show their American Spirit and patriotism. All children 14-and-under are asked to design a patriotic poster and bring it to the game.
Children bringing posters to the game will receive a game ticket for $5.00 (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket at a special price of $10.00) and a coupon for one free hot dog and popcorn. At the half, the participants will parade their artwork around Orthopaedic Specialists Field. The posters will also be judged with prizes, including a bike, football, and Steamwheelers jersey going to the winners.
To enter, children aged 14-and-under need to design a poster on poster board or paper with a maximum size of 18' x 24". They must check in with a parent or guardian at the table located near the box office before the start of the game to register and purchase their discounted tickets.
