Central Valley Coyotes News Release
Central Valley Coyotes' quarterback Juston Wood got to do something he always wanted to do last off-season when he spent time as an actor in the remake of âThe Longest Yard', which opens on this Friday, May 27.
Although you many not see Wood getting any face-time during the movie, he still played a major role behind the scenes.
The big-budget motion picture, which was originally released in 1974, is a story of a former professional quarterback and a former collegiate head coach who are both in prison. The two put together a team of inmates to play a football game against a team made of the prison guards. The remake was produced by Happy Madison Productions, a company owned by Adam Sandler.
The inmates' quarterback, Paul Crewe, was played by Burt Reynolds in the original. In the remake, Sandler plays the role of Crewe, while Reynolds plays the inmates' coach. Others starring in the movie include Chris Rock, former professional wrestler Goldberg, rapper Nelly, and former NFL stars Michael Irvin, Bill Romanowski, and Brian Bosworth.
Wood acted as a stunt double for Bill Fichtner, the actor who plays the role of Captain Knauer, the prison guards' quarterback in the film.
"It was a great experience for me," Wood said. "I never knew what really went on behind the scenes in producing a movie, it was really something."
The second-year quarterback was very appreciative to have had the opportunity to do something he was already familiar doing during his time away for the Coyotes.
"It was a great off-season job," the quarterback said. "The next best thing to playing football is acting like you are and getting paid for it."
Wood, who has had football opportunities with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and the AFL's Los Angeles Avengers has a clear vision of what his true dreams are when it comes to football or the big screen.
When asked if he would continue to pursue his movie career, Wood said. "Doing the movie was a lot of fun, but football definitely comes first."
