Joe Bryant to play against Skycats

January 5, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
New Jersey SkyCats News Release

Mahwah, NJ. Joe Bryant, father of NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant, will not only coach the Boston Frenzy in a game on Sunday, but will again don his basketball shoes and play, something he did last year with great results. The game will take place at the Bill Bradley Center located at Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ at 2PM.

Joe "Jellybean" Bryant was a forward for the Philadelphia 76ers and after being drafted in the first round (14th overall), the elder Bryant would average 8.7 points per game in 606 career NBA games with the 76ers, Clippers and Rockets. He has informed his team that he will be putting on the uniform again for the Frenzy this weekend to help them improve on its 3-6 record as they play the 5-6 Skycats. The Skycats are led into action by former Seton Hall stars Greg Morton and Marcus Tony-El, Ramapo College's own Tennyson Whitted and University of Connecticut's Edmund Sanders.

Like George Foreman, "Jellybean" seems to improve with age as his shooting ability and court savvy often outplay his younger rivals. He'll be great fun to watch.
