Minneapolis/St. Paul Slamma Jammas News Release
Minnesota's new American Basketball Association (ABA) Team, the Minneapolis St. Paul Slamma Jammas will be featured guests tonight, at 11:00 p.m., January 5, 2005 on WCCO-Radio's evening Sport Show: "Sports Tonight with Dark Star" on AM 830 (show duration:9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.)
The show will feature Slamma Jamma owners Maurice Gavin and Darin Peterson and ABA LEAGUE CEO JOE NEWMAN (see www.abalive.com). The trio will discuss the league's explosive growth in 2004, the Slamma Jammas plan to become the "St. Paul Saints of Basketball" and their plan to become a force for positive change in the lives of Twin Cities youth.
The Slamma Jammas announced their entrance into the Twin Cities sports & entertainment market last week with concurrent feature articles in the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal and Patrick Reusse's Sport Column in the Star Tribune.
The Slamma Jammas begin play Fall of 2005 at a âyet-to-be-disclosed' area basketball venue for 2 seasons during construction of their proposed 3,000+-seat âEvent Center' slated for a highly visible, centrally located site in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (proposed completion scheduled for Fall of 2007). The team is presently in discussions with area municipalities and City officials regarding potential sites.
The Slamma Jammas are also in discussions with a locally-based, nationally recognized, youth sports non-profit to begin their community development efforts during the months leading up to their inaugural season.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
